Abstract: The standard way of representing real numbers is with the decimal expansion. Many properties, such as the existence of normal numbers, of this expansion can be investigated by applying ergodic theory to the underlying dynamical system. I will discuss the dynamics of this expansion and of other types as well, such as the continued fraction and the Luroth series expansions, and highlight key differences between each.
