Jose Islas

Congratulations to Jose Islas for obtaining his Ph.D.

Jose defended his dissertation: "Optimal strategies for stopping near the top of a sequence" on Thursday, October 22, 2015. His advisor is Dr. Pieter Allaart. His research interest lies in applied probability and more specifically in the classical secretary problem and its generalizations.

Jose grew up in Culiacan, Sinaloa where he obtained a BS in Mathematics from Universidad Autonoma de Sinaloa. He attended the University of Texas at El Paso and graduated with a MS in Mathematics. In his free time, he enjoys playing/watching soccer. Cooking is one of his biggest hobbies!
