Green Pride: Congratulations to Math Students Recognized on Honors Day

2016 Honors Day Awards

UNIVERSITY TEACHING FELLOW AWARD

  • Cheng (Jeff) Chang was one of four teaching fellows recognized university-wide for their outstanding contributions in the classroom. Jeff just successfully defended his Ph.D. dissertation under the direction of Professor Gao.

MATH DEPARTMENT UNDERGRADUATE MAJOR AWARD

  • Thomas Calkin was recognized as the Outstanding Undergraduate Student in Mathematics. Thomas will be graduating in May with a BS in Mathematics and minors in Computer Science and Russian. Thomas is serving as a Math 2000 Peer Mentor this semester and plans to begin his graduate studies in mathematics next year.

MATH DEPARTMENT ACTUARIAL SCIENCE AWARD

  • Lindsey Whiting was recognized as the Outstanding Student in Actuarial Science. Lindsey is majoring in Mathematics and working toward an undergraduate academic certificate in Actuarial Science. Linsey is also minoring in both economics and finance. Lindsey is asisting the department with the instruction of Math 1180 this term as an undergraduate assistant.

MATH DEPARTMENT MATH TUTOR LAB AWARD

  • Cody Olsen was recognized with the Outstanding Math Lab Tutor Award. Cody will be graduating in May with a BS in Mathematics and a minor in Physics. Cody is also serving as a Math 2000 Peer Mentor this term and will begin graduate studies in mathematics in the fall.

MATH STUDENTS RECEIVING AWARDS FROM OTHER UNT ORGANIZATIONS

  • Brian Benavidez is a double major in Mathematics and Music, and he was the winner of the Ricco Ethics Award from the College of Music.
  • Tracy Leeper was recognized as the Outstanding Undergraduate Student in Secondary Mathematics Teaching. Tracy is majoring in mathematics and completing her teacher certification through Teach North Texas.
