Multiphase flow: diffuse interfase dynamics
Fluid flow in a box with three different phases, and surface tension at the interfaces between them. (needs Java). To do the simulation, Navier Stokes coupled with Cahn Hilliard equations are integrated with finite differences. The left square represents the vorticity, and the right square, the phase field function (red, green and blue indicate different phases). Wait between 10 to 30 minutes to see the new triple junctions.

The initial flow is a group of vortices. The mechanical energy of the flow is transferred to the interfaces, and multiple triple junctions are created.

Move mouse on left square and left click to add momentum.
