UNT ALEKS Placement, Preparation and Learning Math Assessment

The assessment will reopen on October 7,2024 for the Spring 2025 Semester

Please note: This assessment replaces the UNT CANVAS Math Placement Test

The University of North Texas has implemented the ALEKS Placement, Preparation and Learning (ALEKS PPL) Assessment to determine readiness for mathematics courses. ALEKS PPL is a web-based program that uses artificial intelligence to map a student's strengths and weaknesses.

ALEKS will be most useful to new UNT students in degree programs in Mathematics, Science, Engineering, Economics (BS), and students who plan to take science/engineering calculus (Math 1710,1810). If you are a continuing UNT student who has already taken a mathematics course at UNT, you will usually want to enroll in a mathematics course in consultation with your advisor based on how you did in your previous mathematics course.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE ALEKS PPL?

ALEKS online placement to determines your mathematics placement for a UNT mathematics course you plan to take in FALL 2024/SPRING 2025.

HOW LONG and HOW MANY QUESTIONS IS THE ALEKS PPL?

The Assessment is up to 30 questions and generally takes 45 - 90 minutes to complete. At the end of the ALEKS PPL Assessment, you, the student will have a much better sense of your strengths and weaknesses in math.

WHAT HAPPENS ONCE I COMPLETE THE ALEKS PPL?

After the Assessment, an individualized prep and learning module is available for students to refresh their knowledge on forgotten topics. Students then have the opportunity to reassess and improve their placement.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FOR MY SCORE TO UPDATE TO STUDENT RECORD?

Student's record/math group will update in 24-48 business hours, then they can register for their appropriate math course.

HOW LONG DO I HAVE ACCESS TO MY REVIEW MATERIAL?

Students will have access to their individual review material for 1 calendar year.

WHEN SHOULD I TAKE THE ALEKS PPL?

Students should complete the assessment at least 2-3 days prior to attending new student orientation or meeting with an advisor to register for classes.
