This also contributes to the definitive evidence that Welsbach discovered lutetium first, before Urbain of Paris and James and New Hampshire, both of whom are considered co-discoverers of the element. Unfortunatley, Urbain of Paris, the latter (who was head of the International Committee on Atomic Weights) influenced the committee to decide in his favor. After years of controvery, the element was called "lutetium" (after the Latin name for Paris).
