In the telephone directory, this site can be found under the entry of "pneumatic tyres" ("Tyres" is the British spelling for "tires). Such irony: at 62 Priestley Road, only 50 meters from the Fair Hill site, where the father master of pneumatic chemistry lived, is a dealer for pneumatic devices. The authors asked the workers at Priestley Tyres if they were aware of the importance of Priestley's pneumatic chemistry; they were aware of the plaque but thought that perhaps Priestley had invented automobile tires. It is so lamentable that so often the local citizenry of cities all across the world, in both Europe and America, are unaware of the important events of their local history.
