In the hallway is a statue of Florence Nightingale (1820-1910), the "Lady with the Lamp," who joined St. Thomas Hospital after her work in the Crimean War (1853-1856) and who was a leader in the move to the new location on Lambeth. At the new hospital is a museum devoted to Florence Nightingale. She was reputedly the most famous woman in Great Britain after Queen Victoria.
