Upper label: "Sea water holds 65 mg of bromine and only 0.06 mg iodide per liter, but concentrated sea water (mother liquors) contain 30 times as much [bromine and iodine].

Label on pot:"Cooling mixture, ice plus salt."

Lower label: "Method of preparation. The concentrated mother liquors from the saltworks was introduced into a retort, heated, and distilled over and condensed into a red liquid [bromine] in a flask cooled with an ice-salt mixture."
