Previous | Home | NextThis plaque was placed in tribute to the architect Adam Smith, the original designer of the New College (it is to be remembered that in modern parlance, including this sign, Adam Smith's "New College" is now called the "Old College"). Adam Smith died shortly after the laying of the cornerstone, and the Napoleonic Wars postponed active construction.
