This is all that is left today of the original garden, a 250-arc of Hopetoun Crescent. John Hope organized the plants on the Linnaean system. In 1786 Daniel Rutherford took over the Professorship and the responsibilities of the Botanic Gardens, and he performed his lectures here. The Royal Botanic Gardens in 1823 were again moved to its present site at 20 Inverleith Row, 1.6 km northwest.
