This work on refractory tungsten presaged following work on platinum. The Elhuyar brothers recruited Pierre-Francois Chabaneau, a native of southern France, to teach chemistry and experimental physics at the Seminario Vergara. Chabaneau arrived in 1778, and two years later he became Chemistry Chair at Vergara. (Proust was first Chair of physics/chemistry, and he left after three years).
