Pegmatite is a coarse-grained granite, commonly carrying unusual elements such as niobium, tantalum, tungsten, uranium, cesium, and lithium. It is impossible to trace the exact source of Hatchett's columbite specimen, even if high resolution chemical analyses are performed -- if for no other reason, ancient veins that have been quarried are long gone.
