Saved from the fire of Priestley's home Fairhill in Birmingham were two of his prized globes, which he had in his possession apparently since Needham Market. These globes were manufactured by the renowned John Senex (1678-1740), and were refurnished after being saved by Benjamin Martin. This is a globe of the eastern hemisphere of the earth; at the bottom can be traced the western outline of Australia, which at that time was called "New Holland." Courtesy, Dr. Anthony Fletcher.
