Oxford University is the oldest university in the English-speaking world, with a recorded history as far back as 1167, with possible origins as early as the 10th century. This is the Church of St. Mary the Virgin in Oxford, the center of the University and the core from which it grew. Its congregation has met since the middle of the 13th century. The view is south on Radcliffe Square, just to the left of Radcliffe Camera (which can be seen on the right edge of the photo).
