The RTG Informal Mathematics Research Problem Session (IMRPS) will take place this Friday 12-12:50 in GAB 461. The speaker is Aidan Young, a TAMS student at UNT. He will speak on joint research he conducted with Bill Mance for the RTG Undergraduate Math Scholars program in Summer 2014.

Title: Preliminary Results on the Extended Cantor Series Expansion

Abstract: We consider a generalization of two types of series expansions of real numbers: the $\beta$-expansion, and the Cantor series expansion. We demonstrate various preliminary results relating to the Cantor series, and use these generalized expansions to construct continuous, nowhere-differentiable functions.​
