Governor Rick Perry awards RTG Postdoc Bill Mance Outstanding Mentor Award

Dr. Bill Mance, an RTG Postdoc in the Mathematics Department, was awarded an Outstanding Mentor citation from Governor Rick Perry for his mentoring of Texas Academy of Math and Science student Dylan Airey, whose project, Q-Distribution Normality on Bounded Bases, received first place in the mathematical sciences division of the 2013 ExxonMobil Texas Science and Engineering Fair. At most 15 teachers in Texas are awarded such citations each year, and the recognition comes with an invitation to attend, expenses paid, the Governor's Science and Technology Champions Academy. Pictured below on the left, Dylan will enroll at UT Austin to major in math this upcoming fall, and he and Dr. Mance, on the right, continue to collaborate on mathematics research.
