Any compactly generated subgroup of a topological group is K sigma. On the other hand, there are in general K sigma subgroups of topological groups which are not compactly generated. I will discuss examples and also describe a large class of groups in which every K sigma subgroup is compactly generated. I will go over some open questions in regarding the relationship between K sigma and compactly generated subgroups.
