"Did I prepare too much for today's lecture?" "Should I have prepared more for today's lecture?" "What if I get a really good question that slows things down?" "How do I catch up if I fall behind my intended schedule?" "What happens if I don't cover what's needed in the time allotted?"

These are common time-management questions that instructors face each semester, particularly when teaching a class for the first time. Indeed, these questions were at the forefront of my mind last semester when I taught a class (Math 2000 - Discrete Mathematics) for the first time and was uncertain, at the onset of the semester, about how the class would unfold. In this talk, I'll give some reflections on how I addressed these questions as I prepared for and taught Math 2000, discussing both what went well and what I hope to do better in the future. My hope is that these reflections can be a catalyst for group discussion among faculty, graduate students, and other instructors about their own time management concerns.
