Title: Mathematical Concepts and Music Analysis

Abstract: Mathematics and music have always beenclosely connected. Applications of mathematical concepts often reveal a deeper musical logic underlying the surface structure of musical compositions.

In this presentation, I will introduce mathematical concepts used in music analysis, such as set theory, matrix, invariant, and golden section. I will demonstrate advantages and disadvantages of these analytical techniques for understanding post total music of Schoenberg, Webern, and Bartok.
