Abstract: I will talk about some interesting problems in microbial bioinformatics, particularly, the horizontal gene flow that generates 'natural chimeras' in the microbial world, often obfuscating the tree of life concept. I will discuss about bioinformatics methods currently being developed in my laboratory for deciphering the mosaic compositional structure of microbial genomes and eventually, deconstructing their evolutionary histories.
