Abstract: I will give a quick introduction to the basics of knot theory, including knot equivalence, knot diagrams, and Reidemeister moves. We will then define knot invariants, and briefly talk about early attempts at creating knot invariants: namely colorability of a knot diagram and the abstract alegebraic objects known as quandles. If time allows, we will also talk about Seifert surfaces and computation of knot genus.
