Students tend to have a great deal of trouble learning how to do proofs. Typically, learning algorithms is the main emphasis on almost all mathematics classes from kindergarten through calculus. When students take a first course where proofs are emphasized, they find themselves unprepared and confused. Here at UNT, the first proof course is currently real analysis. I plan to talk about what I have been doing in that class to make the transition a little easier for students while still covering the essential topics.
